This past weekend we went to a FRUA (Famililes for Russian and Ukrainian Adoptions) event just a few minutes down the road from our home in Cedar Park. It was a Father Frost party, featuring Father Frost and the Snow Maiden (instead of elves Father Frost has the help of a Snow Maiden). Ryan and I really enjoyed visiting with other adoptive parents and sharing stories, compairing struggles and offering advice. We sat at the table with another family who adopted their son from central Russia just before we brought Korbin home. Their son is just a few months older than Korbin. They have a lot of similarities in size, personality and challenges. That couple is on the waiting list for a girl from the same region. They hope to travel to central Russia, soon.
(check out the photos on our flickr site!)
Korbin really enjoyed the balloons, the inflatable train and the balalaika (is a stringed instrument of Russian origin, with a characteristic triangular body and 3 strings (or sometimes 6, in 3 courses). The man playing the balalaika was amazing! Korbin clapped for him several times. :)
In other news... Korbin has been having difficulty sleeping. It's been a daily struggle for almost 2 weeks now. It takes a long time (sometimes hours) to get him to go to sleep (and stay in bed!). It's a great little work-out for Ryan and I. Back and forth putting him back in bed... then 30 seconds later... putting him back in bed... again and again and again. [whew] Hopefully, he'll outgrow this phase sooner than later!
We are also in the process of finding a new daycare for the little guy. We found one we really like. The price is high, so we'll keep looking around before we make a decision.
Oh - and my sister-in-law (Aunt Beth) is having a baby tomorrow! A little girl is being born into the Morgan family! Woohoo. I can't wait to meet her! I'm leaving work early and heading up there to meet her around 3-4pm!
