This past weekend we went camping at Palmetto State Park. In spite of the not-so-perfect weather, we had an awesome time and enjoyed the less crowded camp. Because of the on-and-off sprinkles we hardly had to worry about sunburns or bug bites! Yeah! Like I said, it turned out great.Ryan, Korbin and I headed out on Friday evening. It took us approx. 1.5 hours to get to the park (just east of San Marcos). Unfortunately, we had a little confusion at the office - it was closed! and the Park Host didn't have our name on the reservation list. With no guarantee of a second night stay we set up camp in one of the three vacant sites.

We chose the one with the most trees to shield us from some of the rain. Like experienced campers, camp was set up in no time. We even set up a dining fly (we never do that). Shortly after Korbin went to bed, Meghan and Mark arrived with their 8 month old son, Desmond. They set up their tent, got settled in and put their son to sleep as well. The first night was very restless for most of us. Korbin was so confused about the three of us sleeping in one bed that he kept us up for several hours! It was horrible! Ryan and I were awake from midnight (when we crawled into our tent) till about 3-4am. Korbin could not lay still! If the park would have been closer to home we would have gone home and come back in the morning for breakfast! haha. Korbin's whining/crying kept Meghan awake, too. :(

The next day we enjoyed the typical camping stuff: nice omelet breakfast (thank you, Meghan), relaxing by the fire, taking naps, hiking, surviving the attack caterpillars (they were scary, huh, Meghan!), eating sandwiches for lunch (without mustard - sorry!!!), hanging out with friends and enjoying a delicious Salmon dinner (thank you, Meghan!!!). Salmon was unexpected, but delicious and easy to make. We also had Banana Boats, Smores, snacks, beer, wine, sodas and good conversation (mostly after the little boys went to bed!
haha). That night went much better with Korbin. We set up his bed NEXT TO our air mattress. We snuck into bed, without waking him up, and were able to sleep until 8am (with a few minor disruptions). On our way home we stopped by a beautiful Bluebonnet field for some photos of Korbin. I couldn't change his clothes, since it was wrapped up under the tarp in the truck (a little rain was expected on the drive home). Oh well. The pictures are still cute. :)

Thanks for a great weekend (Meghan, Mark, Desmond, Watson, Carilee, Ryan and Korbin). We all had a great time and are already emailing each other about when we'll do it, again! :) Hopefully, Ryan and I will be able to buy a larger (family) tent before our next camping trip. That way Korbin can have his own little bed and sleeping bag! If Mom and Dad get a good nights rest, everyone will have more fun, right?! haha

Looks like so much fun! And the park looks really cool too- do you think you'd go back? Wish we could have made it!
I hope you're teaching my grand son camp songs. Maybe I'll teach him "Little Green Frog" this summer. I'm SURE he'll love that. Nonna
