Well, I decided to make the best of it - like I do with most days in my life. I woke up around 8am (which is sleeping in for me) and went for a jog! I haven't jogged in a long long time, so this challenge turned into a very enjoyable activity that I realized I need to work into my life more often. Then, I began to prepare a picnic. I invited Amy and Aiden to come enjoy a nice lunch at a local park. I drove over to Ryan's apartment to pick up my favorite little man in the whole world. I was greeted with a beautiful smile, a hug and a hilarious Mother's Day gift - created by Korbin at school. With promises of a fun time at the park, Korbin eagerly jumped in the car. The park was amazing. A great playground, lots of shade and a really cool water feature! Korbin couldnt' decide what to do, first! Playground it was. He played with Aiden on the playground for quite some time. But, after a nice fall from a ladder we decided it was time for the next activity. The water feature was extremely popular with all the children, and some adults. The sun was beating down on us as we enjoyed watching the kids run around and soak themselves. Korbin was rather timid at first, but soon decided that this was the best thing in the world. He literally ran around, and through, the water feature screaming with this tounge out! It was hilarious! Poor Aiden's diaper could only hold so much water before it fell off. I guess we created quite a scene.
After I dropped my soaked son back off at Daddy's house I decided to do a little shopping. I needed some "warm weather" work clothes. And, shopping without children is really the way to do it, if you can.
A short nap was in order. That sun really drained me. I needed to rest before my sister and I went to the 7pm showing of Star Trek. I have to be honest, I was little sketical of my sister's enthusiasm for this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised and ended up enjoying the movie immensely.
I got home with just enough energy to read a few more pages in my book (which I am over half way through completing).
Overall, I would say that my second Mother's Day was better than the first. Last year, Korbin kept us up all night while at Pat & Denise's cabin. We were exhausted and frustrated after he cried all night and most of the car ride home to Austin. This year, I enjoyed some alone time, some quality time with Korbin and time with my sister. It was a wonderful day!
